Niva Goes Open Source β Transparency, Control, and Trust for You
Today we're sharing Niva's source code with the world. Why? Because you deserve to know how your digital companion works β and to decide how you want to use it.
This important step required a lot of preparation β but today is the day!
Today is a special day.
We're making Niva open source. That means: the complete source code is now freely available to everyone.
But why? And what does this mean for you?
π Why Open Source?
Trust grows through transparency.
When you use Niva, you're trusting her with your appointments, tasks, thoughts. That's a big deal β especially for neurodivergent people who often have enough on their plates just trying to stay organized.
You deserve to know:
- How Niva actually works
- What happens to your data
- That nobody's secretly reading or selling your information
Open source means: You can look inside. You can understand. You have control.
π Your Data Stays with You
With the open source code, you can even host Niva yourself β on your own server, in your own digital space.
Why does this matter?
Many neurodivergent people already have enough daily stress. The last thing you need is worrying:
- "Who's reading my messages?"
- "What if this company disappears?"
- "Can I really trust this system?"
With open source, you can let those worries go.
π οΈ For Developers and Tech-Curious Minds
Behind Niva is a thoughtful architecture:
- Kotlin & Spring Boot for a solid foundation
- Local LLM processing with Ollama (your data never leaves your system)
- Signal integration for natural communication
- Comprehensive BDD testing β because quality matters
- Docker containerization for easy setup
You can find everything on GitHub: github.com/Neurospicy-Niva/fibi
π€ Community and Contributing
Open source also means: Growing together.
If you have:
- Ideas for new features
- Bug reports
- Code you'd like to contribute
- Just feedback to share
You're welcome here. Especially if you're neurodivergent and know what actually helps.
The best tools are built when the people who use them can help shape them.
π Why This Doesn't Change Niva
Niva stays Niva.
The hosted version you know and love keeps running. Support continues. Development keeps moving forward.
Open source is an additional gift β for anyone who wants more control, who likes to develop, or who just enjoys looking under the hood.
This isn't about replacing everything. It's about giving you more choices.
π± What This Means for You
You now have options:
- Keep using Niva as before β simple and straightforward
- Host it yourself if you want full control
- Look at the code to build trust
- Get involved in development if you're interested
Or do absolutely nothing. Niva works exactly the same as before.
This open source release is our way of saying:
"We're hiding nothing. You can trust us. And if you don't β here's everything, so you can decide for yourself."
